We are about a month into the New Year and I wonder how your resolutions are going? Or did you even bother this year – because if you’re like me you know that by February they may end up like the previous years attempts.

Over the years I’ve had quite a few some with more success than others. There is often the running one that I am tempted to try again. Or the consuming less sugar and processed foods. One year I said I’d aim to go to five live theatre play or concerts and three live sporting events. And then there was the year where I said I would read 12 books for pleasure – I ended up reading 13 and next year made a resolution to keep better lists.

I think at the centre of New Year’s resolutions is an attempt to take control and perhaps lead a healthier and more fulfilling life. It’s good to take stock and set some targets and maybe January 1st is as good a time as any.

Committing to spend more time praying and reading my bible seems a good thing for me to resolve to do -not so that I can tell everyone, but because I know that my relationship with God is at the centre of what I means to be fully who God has called me to be. And in spending time doing this I draw closer to God who loves me completely.

So this year I ponder whether you could commit to more time with God. And maybe you could give one person permission to ask you how that is going throughout the year - it’s not too late to commit to this.
